This contest celebrates young musicians at every stage of their journey. Students are encouraged to choose a piece that feels right for them — whether it’s a familiar folk tune or one of my imaginative original compositions.

Performances are evaluated on:

• Musical expression

• Creativity

• Confidence

• Tone and phrasing

• Personal interpretation

• Overall presentation

Not on:

• How difficult the piece is

• How many pages it has

• Whether it’s an original composition or a folk tune

A beautifully played simple piece can be just as impressive as a complex one.

⭐ Choosing a Piece That Fits You

Students should choose the piece that allows them to perform with confidence and joy. A simple melody played with expression, care, and musicality can be incredibly moving.

Some students feel inspired by the challenge of my original pieces. Others feel their best with a familiar tune. Both choices are equally respected.

The goal is not to play the hardest piece — the goal is to play your best piece.
